Rajiv Gandhi’s Murder Convicts seek Mercy Killing

Nalini Sriharan, her husband V Sriharan the two out of seven convicts in the killing of former PM Rajiv Gandhi have demanded mercy killing. A letter in this regard has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madras High Court chief justice, as per Vellore jail authorities.

This year, a petition was also initiated by Nalini Sriharan in the Madras High Court seeking the court’s intervention to direct the TN Governor to release all the seven convicts of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, under Article 161 of the Constitution. However, the court dismissed the petition as it couldn’t serve any order to the Governor.

The seven convicts are A.G. Perarivalan, V. Sriharan, T. Suthendraraja, Jayakumar, Robert Payas, Ravichandran, and Nalini Sriharan. All convicts have been in prison since 1991 when Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a blast caused by the LTTE woman suicide bomber in Chennai.
