Noida: Noida call centers are recently on the radar of International law enforcement agency leading to various raids made by the agency on the basis of information provided by Interpol and the Canadian government.
Recently, Sahil Verma running Sham Operation in Sector 63 was arrested on allegedly cheating thousands of Canadians and citizens of other countries. The call center employees used to gather information of foreign citizens and made them calls offering various investment schemes for tax saving. The level of fraud is being examined. Noida Police found Canada Revenue Agency’s data bank and approximately 251 Canadian citizens record on their computers.
‘This is just the beginning. More illegal call centers are running in the city, which will be busted soon. We will be conducting more raids,’ Noida Police Chief Ajay Pal Sharma said.
Circle officer Rajiv Kumar Singh said ‘Police recovered laptops, computers, routers, mobile phones and other IT equipment used in the Sham operation. The accused are booked under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
Over the past six months, 50 fake call centers have been busted. Keeping in view the rising fraud, new guidelines for operating call centers is under process.
