No Toilets for Women in 15% District Courts, says Study

The Government of India is busy promoting the construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission across the country but a study has come forward highlighting a reverse image. According to data, out of 665 district court complexes, 100 courts have no toilets for women. Out of this which has washrooms, only 40 percent are functional.

Goa, Jharkhand, UP and Mizoram had the least number of court complexes with functional washrooms. The survey further talks about the poor state of security features provided in these Court complexes. 66,50 litigants were interviewed as part of the study.

The results of another survey throw a similarly dismal picture. To assess slum children’s access to toilets, it was found that 81.6 percent of children living in Delhi slums, do not have a toilet in their home. 423 children from four slum areas of Delhi-Inder Camp, Israel Camp, Kalyan Vihar, and Sanjay Camp – participated in the survey, conducted by the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation.
