Kashmiri Traders Accused of being Terrorists, Thrashed in Lucknow by the Right-Wing Activists

by Riya Shree: In a fresh case of assault on Kashmiris, two dry fruits sellers were attacked by right-wing ‘activists’ in Lucknow on Wednesday. One of the accused even posted the video which soon went viral. In the video, vendors, sitting on the roadside were seen getting thrashed by men dressed in saffron. The Kashmiri are seen trying to shield their heads and are pleading the accused to stop. The accused could also be heard saying that the men are getting thrashed because they are Kashmiris.

Mohammed Afzal Naik and Abdul Salaam were thrashed with sticks and were repeatedly abused. One of the victims successfully escaped while the other one was cornered by the right-wing men.

The victim said, “They said we are terrorists. We were told that we sell items here and throw stones there. They started thrashing us. They asked for our Aadhaar cards”, said Mohammed Afzal Naik. The victims were saved by the locals after which police rushed to the spot. The incident was reported from Daliganj area. Lucknow police have lodged an FIR under Section 147/323/504 of the IPC and arrested the accused.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as the members of the Vishwa Hindu Dal, a right-wing fringe group. The group`s president Himanshu Awasthi was also involved in the incident. Jammu and Kashmir politicians Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have condemned the assault. Owing to the ‘unfortunate’ incident, tweets of several politicians became trending demanding ‘prompt action’.

Later the accused in a press appearance applauded the locals who saved their lives.
